Upcoming Conference: 2015 Southeast Horn Workshop at LSU

Next weekend I’ll be heading to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge for the 2015 Southeast Horn Workshop, hosted by LSU Professor of Horn Seth Orgel. Professor Orgel has put together a fantastic lineup of guest artists, exhibitors, and master classes, and this promises to be a great conference. Gail Williams and Adam Unsworth will perform and present master classes, along with members of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and several military bands. In addition, numerous regional artists will be performing, judging competitions, and teaching short “speed lessons” throughout the weekend. Because of another commitment, I won’t be staying for the entire event, but during my time at the workshop I’ll be performing a new arrangement published by Cimarron Music Press (Weber’s Romance for Horn and Piano), as well as conducting the Red River Horn Ensemble, a group made up of professional and amateur players from the north Louisiana area. Conducting this group has been a tremendous pleasure, and we are looking forward to our performance of The Ascension by Paul Basler on the Saturday afternoon horn choir concert. I hope to see you there!

Here’s a brief preview of the Weber, recorded from a live performance last fall. If you like it, consider picking up a copy at http://www.cimarronmusic.com/
