I have read a lot of your articles on “FRENCH HORN, s” and as “EXPERT”, could you help me assess the situation?
Well, I have a question?
I bought a used French horn CGConn 6D -RAW BRASS produced in 1993. (EASTLAKE) I would like to know if this French horn is a “professional” or “semi-professional” model, because there are many controversial opinions about it …. … (even if it turned out that my Conn 6D is a semi-professional french horn, I still think that it has a beautiful tone and very good mechanics and in my opinion it deserves to be called “PROFESSIONAL”.) I would also like to add that I played 30 years in the Military professional brass band on the “1-corner” and now I am retired and I play in the amateur orchestra also on the “1-corner” and my friends laugh at me that as a former professional I bought an instrument like “INTERMEDIATE”.
So what is the “PROFESSIONAL” and what “INTERMEDIATE” instrument and is it not a “shame” for an ex-professional to play on the “INTERMEDIATE” model. I practice a lot on my CG Conn 6D from 3 up to 3.5 hours a day and I don’t feel like I’m blowing an amateur French Horn, I’ve already played instruments such as -Hans Hoyer, CASAL Conn 6D copy, Weltklang Alex 103 copy, Kruspe WENDLLER model, Josef LIDL, OLDS Conn copy 6D and even CONN 8D and in my opinion CG The CONN 6D sounds the best for me and does not differ in any way from the FRENCH HORN mentioned above.
I think that only from “the Lord” will I get a real answer.

Hello, thanks very much for visiting my site! I think it’s possible to get a professional sound on almost any horn, provided that the instrument is in good condition. Higher end horns tend to me made to more exacting specifications and tolerances, which should make it easier for the player to achieve the desired sound. However, if you are satisfied with the horn you are playing on, that’s all that matters! Best regards, James
