Koetsier CD: Reviews and Press Quotes

I’ve been fortunate to receive some very nice reviews and press quotes about my new solo recording, Jan Koetsier: Music for Horn. There are so many new and excellent recordings out there that it is easy to get lost amongst them, and I am grateful to my colleagues for taking the time and effort to review my work. Here are a few snippets from these reviews.

Thank you so much for sending me your fine Koetsier CD! I so enjoyed hearing you play again! I think by recording these pieces you’ve done an important service for the horn world. Your sound is very clear and beautiful; your performances, moving and dramatic! Thanks so much for sharing your work!

Thank you for sending me your recent CD on MSR Classics…your recording is a significant audio document of this less-known composer for all of us to study…Your performances and accompanying program notes show a wide panorama of his work over two decades–and you provide fine demonstrations of his writing for horn in a variety of instrumentations…In short, you capture the drama, lyricism, and humor of Koetsier’s music–and present it with brilliance. Congratulations on your excellent performances and significant new contribution to the study of Horn literature!

James Boldin, Associate Professor of Music at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, has recorded a beautiful collection of works by Dutch composer Jan Koetsier…These are indeed enjoyable compositions to listen to. At times quirky and humorous, at other times bold and virtuosic, they are always quite tuneful and written in a harmonic style that, while interesting, is not overwhelmingly complex…James Boldin serves this music well, presenting the pieces as a collection and highlighting the interest and variety of such an excellent composer.

One other interesting review is from Portuguese horn player Ricardo Matosinhos. Located here, the entire review is in Portuguese, which I don’t speak! However, a Google translation was sufficient enough to communicate the gist of the review. If these reviews have piqued your interest, I encourage you to check out my recording, which is available at MSR Classics and on Amazon (digital download is coming soon – I promise!) If you don’t want to shell out the money to buy the whole album, you are welcome to visit my audio page and listen to several excerpts.
